NewsZone Big
Brother Free!
ATV Network News'
site, NewsZone, has declared itself a 'Big Brother Free Zone' ahead
of the reality series return next week. The controversial reality
television show returns next week for another series and will
doubtless dominate the media for the next few months. However,
NewsZone has decided to go against the trend and has effectively
banned all coverage of the show from its website.
Site Co-Editor,
Doug Lambert, explains 'There will be more than enough coverage of
Big Brother out there without our site adding to it. Several other
websites will have pages of coverage, detailing every trivial event
to take place. We believe that we should offer an alternative to this
landslide of coverage, somewhere readers can go to escape such
coverage. In previous years we have had extremely limited coverage of
the show and this has gone down well with our readers. So this year
will be no different and we shall not be reporting on Big Brother,
unless there's a major incident like the Jade Goody incident. In that
case our coverage will be moderate and appropriate'
The move by
NewsZone is a risky one, as it means readers may turn elsewhere for
coverage, but they are hoping it will prove popular with a section of
the population that are tired of Big Brother and wish to escape the
relentless coverage it receives.
NewsZone
Columnists to stay
ATV Network News
has confirmed today that two of its columnists, for its NewsZone
website, will remain with the site for the foreseeable future.
Queenie and Vivian, the site's agony aunts and columnists, have
agreed to remain with the site for some time. The pair returned to
NewsZone a month ago after departing at Christmas. Their return has
been very successful, prompting a large response for readers, and the
duo have agreed to make their return permanent.
Site Co-Editor,
Doug Lambert, said 'I'm delighted they have decided to stay on.
Queenie and Vivian are always amusing and terribly politically
incorrect. But the advice they dole out may not be what the reader
was hoping for but often, or not, actually helpful. They may well
offend people but that's part of their charm
Queenie Le Trout
'Well it's about time we were recognised. I am, of course, happy to
be staying on here a little longer and look forward to 'helping' out
people in distress'.
Feedback to the
pair has largely been positive with readers commenting they find them
amusing. We have it on good authority that the pair have fans within
the larger media industry, with many finding their rants and
offerings very funny.
ATV Network News
can also confirm that 'Gossip Boy' will remain with the site after a
positive trial period. The columnist, who lives in London and reports
on the antics of Soho, has been rather successful and feedback has
also been positive. There have also been a great deal of emails
enquring as to whom the mysterious blogger is.
SoapZone
launches Quest
SoapZone, the
website from ATV Network News, has launched a new poll to find the
'Top Medical Drama' of all time. The website is asking its readers to
vote for the show they believe is the best medical drama shown on
British television. The show does not have to be of British origin
but has to have been shown on UK television, therefore shows such as
ER and Flying Doctors are possible candidates.
To help readers
decide the site feature brief pieces on several Medical Drama's, in
the format of past and present, to help readers decide. So far these
brief features have covered Emergency Ward 10, The Royal, Angels and
Holby City. Voting is open for a month and the winner will be
declared at the end of June.
Site co-editor
Doug Lambert says of the vote 'With the recent explosion of medical
drama's on our televisions we thought it was time for readers to
decide which is, or was, the best. The current shows aren't the only
ones that viewers can vote for, the old classics and
American/Australian shows are also up there for voting just as
long as they were shown on British Television. It will be very
interesting to see the results and whether viewers feel old is better
and UK is better or American
Check back for the
results of the vote in June.
